Our International Women’s Day Official Opening and Celebration Dinner was held just in time before Covid 19 changed all our plans.

On 14 March, 2020, approximately 70 guests gathered at the Mill to celebrate the Opening of our new Exhibition and to enjoy a Celebration Dinner prepared by Jazzamataz Catering (Paul Mailfert). The theme was “An Absolutely Fabulous Four” and honoured four local women who have volunteered selflessly for many years.
Champagne on arrival was served by House Managers Wendy and Louis van Ekert. At 6pm, Ann Hacker (Curator) welcomed the Guest Speaker, Carolyn Lasker (Principal, Armidale Secondary School) to perform the Official Opening Ceremony. The covers over the exhibition were torn down and the chosen four were revealed much to everyone’s delight.
After drinks and canapes in the garden, the guests were seated, and M.C. Annie Mayo welcomed all. The four ladies were introduced by Lauren Chalmers (Ass. Curator). In turn, Sue Barnden, Mary Ann Munsie, Cheryl Nolan and Bev Stubberfield introduced themselves with a short address explaining why they volunteered and how much they enjoyed helping people. They were all very heartfelt.
Between courses, Carolyn Lasker, presented her very interesting talk on the IWD theme “#EachforEqual”.
Thoroughly enjoyable entertainment was again this year provided by Mardi Cook, singer/songwriter and Michelle Bankier, gifted guitar player.
Because of the months when the Museum had to be closed, it has been decided that the “Absolutely Fabulous Four” Exhibition will remain on show during 2021.
