Despite the bitterly cold weather that occurred throughout the last few winter months when many of the events were held, it did not seem to daunt the invited guests/audiences who all seemed to enjoy the various occasions.
In the four months, May – September, eight Coach Groups have visited the Mill. Two of which came only to visit our Museum to see the exhibitions, including a group of fifty-five senior members from Railway Adventures, arriving after having enjoyed lunch at Uralla’s Top Pub. Other Coach Groups added the Thunderbolt Painting Talk to their visit while others included “the lot” – Painting Talk and Lunch (or morning or afternoon tea) and the Museum.

The Mill continues to be used by many organisations to hold their regular meetings. Our own meetings are held at 4pm on the second Thursday of every month at which all are welcome!
Uralla Arts wowed their audiences with five various gigs and Progressive Cinema resumed again with the film “Message of the Lyrebird”.
Uralla Rotary supported us again with their June Changeover Dinner for thirty-four people. Our amazing little team of caterers produced a beautiful meal using some new menu selections.
A baby shower was held at the Mill on a wintry Saturday afternoon.
Thirty-one members of the Taree Car Club celebrated Christmas in July lunch, at the Mill, decorated appropriately. A tasty hot traditional meal was enjoyed by all, after which they took time to visit our museum exhibitions.
The group stayed overnight at the Bushranger Motel – all good news for our little town.
It was lovely to have the Armidale Choral Society perform at the Mill, where they also put on a delicious afternoon tea. It is very likely they will be back again in early December – keep an eye out for that!
On 7 September, four SAC members ventured to the Armidale Bowling Club for the Centre for Volunteering New England and Northern Inland Volunteer Awards. We had entered in the Team Section a category which we won in 2022! This year we didn’t win but the very deserving Armidale Sanctuary Humanitarian Settlement won.
We wish them well in the state finals in December. It was a lovely afternoon with everyone who entered, recognised and photographed. Excellent publicity for us being the only volunteer group from Uralla to enter.
Please contact me if you would like to join the Uralla Historical Society – (contact details below) you would be most welcome to be part of the McCrossin’s Mill team, an important part of the Uralla community. Where would Uralla be without McCrossin’s Mill Museum, officially opened in 1982 – 41 years ago!
