Uralla Historical Society is again marking International Women’s Day with an Exhibition Opening and a Celebration Dinner on Saturday, 16 March, 2024.
The IWD Exhibition this year is entitled “Keeping the Faith” and, as every year, honours four Uralla women.
Our Guest Speaker will be Ms Toni Averay, General Manager of Uralla Shire Council and should be a very
Interesting address.
This will be the sixth year the Museum will curate an
exhibition celebrating International Women’s Day, and is possibly the only Museum in the world to do so.
When a lady visitor complained about our exhibitions all being about men, the jibe was acted upon, and the annual International Women’s Day exhibitions were initiated and became part of the Mill’s culture.
Our first Exhibition in 2017, “Hats Off To The Ladies” honoured four Councillors. In 2018, “Wonder Women”
was an apt title for two “Firies” , a wildlife carer and a dedicated volunteer. “That’s My Business” in 2019, celebrated four Uralla women who ran their own successful businesses in today’s competitive times. “Absolutely Fabulous 4” honoured four dedicated life-long volunteers in 2020.
Covid cancelled our 2021 Exhibition but in 2022 the Mill celebrated four of their own ladies “Golden Girls” who between them had racked up a total of over 120 years volunteering at the Mill. Due to certain circumstances, that Exhibition remained in place for another year, but now in 2024 the ladies are back.
