A forgotten cricketer, antique lace, and a Chinese story now complete. . .

Upcoming and New Exhibitions at the Museum

McCrossin’s Mill is a Museum with a surprising variety of exhibits, some of which are of National Significance. One of these, “New Gold Mountain, The Chinese at Rocky River” has been completed in a spectacular way.

Three stunning, large glass cabinets (courtesy of Carey Ward at the Powerhouse Museum) have provided a superb repository for our unique collection of Chinese artefacts.

The artefacts, some of which were archived in our storeroom, were ‘re-discovered’ by the curator of the new addition, Collection Manager, Melissah Norris. Others were already on view but not as well displayed and thus, in the main, were overlooked. Melissah was assisted by Lauren Chalmers and Ruth Meyer, and the exhibit was sponsored by Uralla Medical Centre and Properties Uralla.

“Sunny Jim Mackay”, a new exhibition curated by Kent Mayo, tells the amazing and tragic story of this Uralla resident and astonishing cricketer.

The first half of next year, should see the eagerly awaited exhibition of Antique Lace. Special cabinets have been made locally to house the lace, some of which date from the 16th Century. We are extremely fortunate to have Rosemary Shepherd curating this display.

Now living in Uralla, Rosemary was, for 20 years, the Lace Curator at the Powerhouse Museum.
